Professor Ramani Vijayan Sannasi

Professor Ramani Vijayan MBBS, FRCA, FFARCS (I), FANZCA, FAMM (Malaysia) is currently an honorary Professor in the Department of Anaesthesiology, after having worked for 36 years as a Professor and Senior Consultant in the same department. Her main professional interests are in Acute and Chronic Pain Management, Anaesthesia for Neurosurgery and Clinical Pharmacology. She established the first Acute Pain Service in Malaysia in UMMC in 1992.

She was the President of the Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain (MASP) and is now is now an advisor. MASP has been instrumental in improving “Pain Education” in Malaysia, both in terms of organizing workshops and publishing guidelines on pain management. She has helped introduce “Essential Pain Management’ into the undergraduate medical curriculum in UM. She continues with her teaching commitments, both at the University and Regional levels.

She was the Founding Editor in Chief of the ASEAN Journal of Anaesthesiology (1999-2005) and has continued to be on the editorial board of a couple of other journals.
