DR. WAN AIZAT BINTI WAN ZAKARIA

Wan’s life changing moment began with the decision to pursue a career in medicine after she completed her A-Levels in Oundle School in 2002. She later graduated from Cardiff University and spent her foundation years in Wales, during which she developed her love for apple crumble, Welsh nature (read: cakes), and Harry Potter. Following a medical ward round on the geriatric ward one afternoon, she made up her mind that she prefers the patients to be asleep, rather than awake. Consequently, she joined the Masters in Anaesthesiology programme in University Malaya and became a full-fledged anaesthesiologist in 2016. Her special interests include Neuroanaesthesia in which she completed her fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospital. She is also keen on Airway management, Perioperative medicine, and Quality improvement. She strongly believes that quality patient education and preoperative optimisation are critical in transforming overall patient outcome. She is a well-being enthusiast and achieves her wellness by cycling, chasing sunsets and surrounding herself with positive people. Her favourite quote is “only dead fish go with the flow.”
