POSTOPERATIVE DELIRIUM AND THE ROLE OF DENSITY SPECTRAL ARRAY IN POSTOPERATIVE DELIRIUM

PRESENTER : DR SHUREN
SUPERVISOR : DR FITRY

Objective:

Aims to study the role of density spectral array (DSA) in post op delirium in hope incorporate the use of DSA more routinely in our practice to reduce the incidence of patients developing post op delirium.

Learning points:

  1. Understanding the pathophysiology of delirium and diagnosing delirium in patients especially in post op patients.
  2. Understanding the basics of processed EEG in DSA and how to interpretation of DSA.

Summary:

There are many evidences that suggest that intraoperative EEG monitoring (BIS) reduces the incidence of POD. However there are no strong evidence yet that suggest use of Density Spectral Array (Massimo) has effects on reducing POD. But since both of these monitors are processed EEG monitors, we can assume that DSA does have a role in reducing POD.
